FLOATING GUITAR
This is the guitar I play most often in gigs. It may look like a shoebox guitar, but a lot of thought went into its design. The redwood soundboard is very light and flexible, supported only at the ends and with no strutting beneath. Sponge rubber strips along the sides prevent it from collapsing under string pressure. The pickup responds to the motion of the strings, not the soundboard, but the fact that the soundboard moves so easily with the strings means that the soundboard influences the string tone significantly. This can be heard in the signal from the pickup – an unusually acoustic-like sound coming from an electric pickup.
