This instrument uses tines which are not mounted but hand-held, one in each hand. They’re struck and held against a heavy steel bridge on the main body of the instrument with the striking point near the base or the middle of the tine. This sets the overhanging portion to vibrating. There’s a magnetic pickup positioned just beyond the bridge to pick up the vibration of the overhanging portion. Sliding the tine forward or backward as the vibration sustains causes the pitch to bend. The bridge has tiny notches in it, and sliding the tine sideways across the notches tends to perpetuate the vibration. The tines are mounted in small C-clamps to provide the needed counterpoise and act as a handle.
