GURGLE OCK

Playing the ‘MOE FLUTE

Gurgle Ock is an agitation flute in the form of an ocarina sounded by burbling water. It has a single sound chamber with water in the bottom. The player blows through a blow tube into the water to create the bubbling sound. The chamber has tone holes to vary the natural frequency of the enclosed air, and this resonance selectively enhances that frequency within the bubbling sound to create the sense of pitch. The player opens and closes the tone holes by means of a set of levers and pads. For a related instrument in this collection, see the Gurgle Organ.
