Bowed T-Rods

SSS-Z1

SSS-Z1 The strings of this zither are mounted directly on a thin sheet of spring-tempered steel acting as a soundboard. The instrument is configured so that the strings are the main thing holding the weight of the sheet, which makes for excellent transmission of string vibrations directly to the sheet. The sheet is not rigidly held, but is free to bend and flex, causing shifting resonances that color the string tone. There are eleven strings each divided into two segments, for a range of 22 notes.
