GHING
This instrument has strings and steel rods working together. Each of four horizontal boards carries three strings. The rods are inserted between the strings, over-under-over, allowing them to hang below without slipping through. There are pickups monitoring the strings, not the rods. When the player strikes the rods, their vibration is transmitted through and filtered by the strings. The strings can also be plucked directly for a tone which is influenced by the swaying rods. It would be difficult to impose a pre-conceived tuning on this instrument, but by exploring rod positioning and string tuning you can find unique and exotic tonalities.
