OSTRICH OCARINA
The name ocarina is used for some types of globular flutes – that is, flute-like instruments which are not long and tubular, but more roundish in shape. Such flutes usually work best with fipple mouthpieces (the type with a narrow channel directing the air over a sounding edge). The rounded form functions somewhat differently from narrow tubular flutes, producing a minimum of overtones and creating a soft, rounded sort of tone. This ocarina is made from an ostrich egg shell, with a fipple of wood.
